Following PAOK’s solid display at “Artemio Franchi” against ACF Fiorentina and his own excellent performance, Panagiotis Glykos spoke to Novasports ahead of the league encounter against Panathinaikos. Here is what the Greek international goalkeeper had to say about the Florence match, the duels with Viola’s stars, PAOK’s future in Europe and the upcoming Toumba match:
About the game against ACF Fiorentina:
“It was a very good match. It was leveled, with both sides enjoying a good half each. ACF Fiorentina were in command in the first half and created more chances, while we focused more on our defence. After the interval, we changed our formation and managed to improve our performance. We took the lead but failed to hold on to a victory that would have been decisive in our quest to qualify. However we still have hope. We conceded the equalizer in a set play and that left us a bitter feeling in the end, as we came close to winning”.
About PAOK’s future in their group after the draw in Italy:
“It’s a positive result, as Fiorentina are very strong at home. Also let us not forget that qualification depends entirely on us. It was important to get that draw and I believe that we will manage at the end”.
About his own duel with Mario Gómez:
“I never focus on specific players, nor do my teammates. We focus on collective effort and that’s what we did in Florence as well”.
About Panathinaikos’ team:
“Both sides had European matches on Thursday. We had also the trip, therefore less rest. This encounter is very tough, a classic high profile match. But playing at Toumba – a hopefully packed Toumba- gives us the upper hand. The fans will help us prevail over our rivals and get over fatigue. It’s up to us”.
The potential key factors of the match against Panathinaikos:
“Such matches get decided by the players’ will and fighting spirit. Each player must fight to the maximum. I believe that we will win boosted by our supporters”.
