At the age of just four – he claims to remember it very well and we have no reason to question him – Giorgos Koutsias fell in love with football. Koutsias was born on February 8, 2004 in Alexandria, Imathia. At the age of six he started training at the academy of his local town. He quickly moved on to PAOK Koulouras, and in 2012 he joined the PAOK Academy and donned the famous black and white shirt.
For four years he traveled back and forth from Alexandria to Thessaloniki. «The car was my home; I slept there, I changed there, I studied there,» he recalls. He was only 12 years old, in 2016, when he started living in hostels arranged by PAOK. Very young but at the same time extremely mature to manage such a situation.
Koutsias passed through every educational stage of the PAOK Academy with flying colors, and he vividly remembers all his moments in games, international tournaments and finals, and he has developed into a very capable center forward, packing skills and rare qualities to make him the envy of many players. Strong and fast, he plays with guile and perception that seems well beyond his years, while he also has a great eye for goal, excellent finishing skills, top-quality technique and is a leader on the pitch.
In eight of the 10 tournaments he participated in he was the top scorer and MVP. In the 2017-18 season, being just 14 years old, he played in the Super League Under-15 championship and scored ten goals. In the 2018-19 season, he scored 28 goals and was crowned a champion. In the 2019-20 season, in four matches with the Under-17s he scored six goals and was crowned a champion again. And he only played four times because he had already been promoted to the Under-19 side, with whom he scored eight times and also won another league title.
From the summer of 2020 he joined pre-season training and is now officially a member of the first team squad. On August 10, 2020 he scored his first goal for the first team in a pre-season friendly against Volos.
Koutsias has also played for Greece at every youth level. He impressed with his performances for the Euro 2020 qualifiers in Nafpaktos, and in November 2019. Among other things, he scored two goals against Germany. It should be noted that he was the country’s youngest international. And PAOK, of course, has moved quickly to tie Koutsias to the club with a contract until 2023.
