Giorgos Kostikos was born in Tashkent in 1958, and he came with his family to Greece at the age of six, going on to make his debut at the young age of 15 years with Pierikos in the second tier of Greek football. In 1976, a title year for PAOK, he scored an equalizer at the Toumba Stadium in the 69th minute, to draw his team level after PAOK had gone ahead in the 51st minute with a goal by Giorgos Koudas. After that feat, he became a transfer target for the Double-headed Eagle. After many months of negotiations, in the summer of 1977, he finally donned the club’s black and white stripes.
A top class striker, Kostikos played for PAOK in 232 league matches (78 goals), 44 Cup games (15 goals) and 17 European matches (four goals, in matches against Eintracht Frankfurt, Sevilla and Lokomotiv Plovdiv.) In On March 23, 1977, at the age of just 18, he made his international debut for Greece in an away friendly match against Czechoslovakia in 1980.
He celebrated winning the 1985 championship with PAOK, while he has also played in two Greek Cup finals.
In the summer of 1986, he was released by PAOK and was acquired by Olympiacos, with who he was also crowned champion in 1987. The following year, he joined Diagoras Rhodes, where he ended his career prematurely. In total he played in 323 league matches, scoring 102 goals.
When he hung up his boots, he started a coaching career. He had stints in the dugouts of PAOK, Pierikos, Levadiakos, Kozani, Nafpaktos, Ethnikos Asteras, Nea Salamina Famagusta, Apollon Kalamaria, and Veria.
He is a the holder of a UEFA Pro Licence and since 2004 at PAOK he has worked as a coach (2005-06) and as a scout. In the 2024-25 season, he takes over the high level supervision of the PAOK B coaching team as technical manager of the training process.
