Born in Tamale, Ghana on the 2nd of July 1994, Baba made his football debut at local club Young Meteors and in 2010 he was transferred to Dreams FC, with whom he played for the first time professionally in the second division.

His impressive performances earned him A… promotion to the top flight with Asante Kotoko, who acquired him on loan.

The player was on the list of many scouts from big clubs, such as Manchester City and Arsenal, but he made the step to Europe first with Greuther Firth, who offered him a leading role in the Bundesliga side. It was a move that turned out to be the right one. His team may not have been able to stay in the division, but Baba’s performances were outstanding. He stayed at Greuther for one more season in the 2.Bundesliga and then moved to Augsburg.

With 31 appearances and five assists, Baba impressed Chelsea who spent 14 million euros to bring him to London. He signed a five-year contract with the Blues and played in 23 games in the 2015-16 season, quickly finding a role for his new team despite tough competition for places.

The following season found him on loan at Schalke. His return to the Bundesliga was what he needed, but misfortune would knock on his door for the first time. He managed to play in just 19 games, scoring once and dishing out two assists, before suffering a knee injury and missing the rest of the season. He returned at the end of the 2017–18 season and stayed with the Royal Blues for a further six months before moving to France and Reims.

There, in one half-season, he found rhythm, played in 11 games, scoring one goal and serving up one assist. He returned to London, but another loan spell came at Mallorca, who had just been promoted to La Liga. A knee injury prevented him from getting much playing time so he returned to England to fully recover and return to action.

In January 2021, Baba came to PAOK on loan from Chelsea. In half a season, the Ghanaian defender played in 17 games, scored once and provided one assist, while also winning the Greek Cup of the 2020-21 season.

His loan ended and he returned to London to leave immediately afterwards for Reading.

The Ghanaian played for two seasons in the Championship, making 49 appearances and producing one assist.

Baba made his debut with the Ghana national team in 2014 and is a member of the squad to date with 51 appearances, 1 goal and eight assists, being a finalist at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Baba accepted PAOK’s offer and returned to Thessaloniki to wear the black and white shirt for the next three years.
