International referee Michalis Koukoulakis will take charge of the encounter between Panetolikos and PAOK from Super League matchday 4, as decided by the Central Refereeing Committee. The dentist from Iraklion will be accompanied by Damianos Efthymiadis (Pieria) and Dimitris Tatsis (Ipiros), the assistant referees, with Stefanos Mantakis (Imathia) acting as fourth official. Giorgos Giannopoulos (Athens) will be the referee observer.
Michalis Koukoulakis made his top-flight debut in 2004-05 and has been an international referee since 2008. He first crossed paths with PAOK on 29 December 2004 in an away encounter against Panathinaikos (2-1) and handled his first Toumba match on 20 February 2005 (PAOK – Kallithea 3-1). He has since officiated many eventful games, including the 2008-09 Greek Cup match Olympiacos-PAOK, that affected his relationship with the “Double-Headed Eagle”. Last season he refereed PAOK in their away 5-2 victory over AEL Kalloni and at home against Panthrakikos (3-0) and Atromitos (also 3-0).
In the current season he has handled one match in the domestic league (Panathinaikos-Panionios 2-1) and two European encounters: the 2-0 home victory of Dinamo Minsk over Madeira and Astana’s 3-0 win over AIK Stockholm at Solna, both for the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds.
