PAOK punished for every error
In a balanced game, without a lot of clear opportunities, PAOK paid dearly for their mistakes and were defeated 3-1 by Panathinaikos on Matchday 3 of the 2024-25 Stoiximan Super League Play Offs.
PAOK came out looking impose their game, kept the ball well, but they lacked clarity and good decision making, and as a result they failed to create clear scoring opportunities.
Panathinaikos, for their part, were clinical and took full advantage of the two important moments that presented themselves. In the 33rd minute, Djuricic stole possession from Wieteska , passed to Swiderski, who picked out Ounahi to make it 1-0, while in the 42nd minute, from a PAOK free-kick, Siopis initiated a Panathinaikos counter attack, and Ounahi, with the help of a good dose of luck, scored with a deflected finish off Wieteska to double the advantage.
Razvan Lucescu brought on Taison and Samatta at half-time, with the aim of trying to get a quick goal in order to get back into the game, but ultimately Panathinaikos managed to get a third goal. This time it was PAOK old boy Swiderski who headed in a cross from Vagiannidis in the 50th minute.
PAOK did not give up, however, and went on the offensive, penning the home side in their own half for long spells, as well as scoring a goal through Konstantelias in the 78th minute after an assist from Taison. However, it proved to be too little, too late as the hosts held firm to seal the points.
