Under-17s within hair’s breadth of the title
PAOK’s Under-17 recorded their 10th consecutive victory, defeating Lamia 4-0 away from home on Matchday 23 of the Super League.
PAOK remain at the top of the table, with 57 points from 22 games, compared to Olympiacos’ 46 points and OFI’s 45. It’s now clear that the difference that the young guns have built, barring a shocking surprise, means that they will secure back-to-back league titles, as mathematically the Double-headed Eagle need just one point.
There are four games left until the end of the championship, with PAOK hosting Panaitolikos on 06.04.
With three goals from Souvlatzis, and one from Matera, PAOK «locked up» the victory in Lamia essentially from the first half. In the 22nd minute, Gioka provided the assist and Matera scored, in the 29th minute, Souvlatzis made it 2-0 from a pass by Chaldezos, and in the 36th minute, Souvlatzis again, with an excellent finish, from Gioka’s assist, scored PAOK’s third goal. The final 4-0 result was a personal matter for Souvlatzis, as he stole the ball outside the penalty area in the 57th minute before scoring.
It should be noted that Souvlatzis, Matera and Chaldezos are a year younger than the official age category, as they were all born in 2009.
PAOK lineup: Karakottas, Avgitidis, Kyriazidis, Lelekas, Mokris, Papadopoulos (68′ Christodoulou), Chaldezos (57′ Stamos), Gioka (57′ Baxevanos), Souvlatzis, Matera (75′ Ion Bogdan), Aretis (46′ Bakalidis).
