More breathing space for PAOK B [with pictures]

PAOK B took a significant step to safety with a 1-0 away win over Diagoras in Rhodes. The scoreline did not fully reflect the picture of the game, as PAOK were clearly the better team, “taking risks” on several occasions, given that they should and could have put the gane behyond doubt earlier. It goes without saying that the three points are invaluable, as the team are now tied with Niki Volos in first place in the play-outs with 16 points.

PAOK B were lucky to take the lead very early on, in just the third minute, with a goal from close range by Kottas, after Kanis‘ corner and a header from Lagonidis. The Double-headed Eagle maintained control of the ball and the game, threatened mainly from set pieces, and could have extended their lead, mainly in the 39th minute with Hatsidis’ header.

With the start of the second half, PAOK B missed at least three good opportunities, plus a penalty, to extend their lead. Instead, they put themselves once again in a precarious position of … anxiety until the final whistle. In the 49th minute, Sinanai entered the box and struck a good diagonal shot that went just wide. Two minutes later, Hatsidis produced an excellent dribble to get into the penalty area before being fouled. However, the penalty kick taken by Hurtado was missed. In the 72nd minute, Tsiliggyris in the home goal saved from Kanis who had a good chance to score, while the home side missed a great opportunity in the 76th minute in a one-on-one, with the ball going wide.

The next game for PAOK B is a home game against Niki Volos.
