Sergio Peña joins PAOK
PAOK announces the acquisition of Sergio Peña from Malmö. The Peruvian midfielder signed a two-and-half-year contract plus the option of another year with the Double-headed Eagle, and he will wear the number 4 shirt.
Sergio Peña was born on September 28th 1995 in Lima, Peru. He began his career in the youth system at Alianza Lima, where he made his professional debut in 2012 at the age of 16. He made 22 appearances and cotributed three assists for Alianza before moving to Spain in 2013, to join Granada.
At Granada, Peña played for the second team, making 38 appearances and scoring five goals, while he made 19 appearances for the first team in LaLiga, scoring once and providing three assists. During his time in Spain, he was loaned to his former club Alianza and to Universidad San Martín in the 2016–17 season.
In 2018, the Peruvian midfielder returned to Europe, again on loan, this time to Tondela. In Portugal, he made 38 appearances, scoring one goal and providing five assists.
A year later, Peña joined Dutch side Emmen, where he established himself as a key midfielder. He stayed in the Netherlands for two seasons, playing in 60 games, scoring 11 goals and providing 6 assists.
In 2021, he signed with Malmö, where he had an excellent run over four seasons. With the Swedish team, he played in 119 games, scoring five goals and providing eight assists, becoming a key cog in the team’s midfield. During his time there, he was instrumental in the club winning three championships (2021, 2023, 2024), as well as two Swedish Cups, in 2022 and 2024.
At international level, Peña has been a member of the Peruvian national team since 2017, earning 47 caps and scoring four goals.
