PAOK vs. Aigaelo: Facts & Figures
Ahead of PAOK’s Greek Cup Round of 16 contest against Aigaleo at the Toumba Stadium, paokfc.gr puts you in the picture about the background to the match, as well as a look back at our previous encounters against the Athens club.
- PAOK will play its first home match of this year’s Greek Cup against Aigaleo. Until their first-round match, the Double-headed Eagle had not won a cup match at Aigaleo’s home ground, as the Athens team had won one and drawn two in the three previous matches.
- However, the history of the two teams’ matches began with single knockout games, which were played at PAOK’s home ground.
- On June 21, 1970, in the semi-finals of the competition, they won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Fountoukidis in the 84th minute, and on April 10, 1974, they hosted Aigaleo at the Toumba for the quarter-finals of the competition and won 2-0 thanks to two goals by Kermanidis in the 44th and 89th minutes.
- The next time they met was on December 22, 2002, when the match ended in a goalless draw and in the second leg, Aigaleo won 2-0 (76’ Makris, 84’ Barkoglou) and qualified for the next phase.
- The last meeting of the two teams in a Greek Cup match was in the 2003-04 season, when in the 2nd round of the competition they drew 1-1 (8’ Agritis – 80’ Salpingidis). In the second leg that took place a month and a half later, PAOK won 1-0 with a goal by Salpingidis (15’) and qualified for the next phase.
- PAOK have played four home matches, with three wins without conceding a goal and one goalless draw.
- In total, both teams have faced each other eight times in the Greek Cup, including their game in this year’s first round of the competition. PAOK have four wins, Aigaleo one and there have been three draws. There are three qualifications for PAOK, one for Aigaleo, while in 1989-90 both teams qualified from Group 4.
