PAOK B suffer first defeat

PAOK B experienced their first defeat in this year’s league championship. They were defeated 2-1 in Halastra by Diagoras, on Matchday 8 of Super League 2, a game that in no way can lay claim on providing the best quality football.

19.10.2024

Lively, but ineffective, PAOK B threatened plenty, and created some good attacking moments – especially in the second half they lay siege to the opposition goal – but showed a lack of composure and concentration, which cost them in the end.

The visitors took the lead with a penalty, PAOK B also equalized with a penalty of their own, but Diagoras found a way to win on the counter and with a great strike in the 89th minute.

The first 45 minutes went by with PAOK B having the first effort on goal, and Diagoras defending and trying to threaten through counter-attacks. Of course, they could have taken the lead with Bradonijc in the seventh minute, Hurtado in the 20th minute, or via Filon in the 25th minute, and even Tsaousis in the 38th minute… However, neither could find the net and the teams sent into the dressing rooms at 0-0.

The pattern of play was similar in the second half, with perhaps a bigger chance for Kanis in the 52nd minute, but also by Hurtado in the 65th minute. And because, …as it usually happens like this, on a counterattack in the 73rd minute, Diagoras won a penalty and even though Monastirlis guessed the right way, he coud not keep the ball out and PAOK B fell behind. In the 87th minute, however, and after a corner kick, PAOK B won a penalty for a challenge on Lagonidis. Hurtado equalized for the Double-headed Eagle from the spot, but in the 89th minute, the visitors went on the counter-attack and Oliveri put Diagoras in front for good with a nice shot. Despite six minutes of stoppage time, the score remained unchanged.

The next game for PAOK B is at home against PAS Ioannina.
