The match ended 1-1 at 90 minutes thanks to goals from Koukis (47′) and Fountoukidis (50′). At that time the winner of the match was decided by the flip of a coin, and PAOK saw the lucky penny fall in their favor and they progressed to the next round of the competition.
- Their first meeting in the league took place on November 26, 1972, and Atromitos was the home team. PAOK won 2-0 thanks to goals from Sarafis and Apostolidis. The Double-headed Eagle won their first 5 home and away games against Atromitos and that streak was broken on May 16, 1976, when the Peristeri club won 2-1 at the Toumba.
