Statement from Makis Gagatsis

Makis Gagatsis, a candidate for the presidency of the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO), made the following statement:

06.06.2024

«My presence at PAOK has come to an end and I am overcome with great melancholy. I have passed through the years of an almost complete adulthood, 16 whole years since I accepted the proposal of Thodoris Zagorakis to take over the management of the offices. And really from that day I came of age as an executive, as a stakeholder of PAOK, as a colleague and as a human being.

The arrival of Ivan Savvidis not only changed the entire history of Greek football, but mine as well. I am grateful to him for recognizing in me the desire and the strength to fight alongside him for a PAOK to be crowned champions, but also for an independent and fair Greek football. I am grateful to him for the responsibilities he entrusted to me, for his patience and persistence to achieve what we aimed for.

The titles that came were incidental to the strengthening of PAOK, it was not the end in itself and will never be for the club that represents the refugee ideal and the lost homelands.

I really want to thank all the unsung heroes of the offices, the employees, the members of the administrations, all the people we have worked with over the years. My faith belongs to them, that PAOK will continue to operate in the way that brought it to the top and remains there.

A big thank you to the organized and non-organized fans of PAOK who supported us, forgave us, praised us or criticized us with respect and appreciation.

Above all, I thank my family, my father, my beloved mother who I miss so much and owe her everything, my sisters, my daughter and my son who do not enjoy me as much as I would like, and my wife for what she has been through, for the support she has given me since our student days and continues to do so.

I apologize to anyone I unintentionally wronged and hurt, all my decisions had the interest of PAOK as a common goal.

From the new challenges ahead, I will work overall for the development of Greek football, having PAOK in my heart, and knowing that all it needs to flourish is a framework of justice and equality.

It was an honor to serve this great club and my love for it since the first day I stepped through the door of the Toumba at the age of 8 will never fade.

Thank you and see you again.»
