Club statement

Our firm position is that matches in the Greek league must be played in front of supporters and in full stadiums, and therefore it is welcome if the Olympiacos-PAOK match on Sunday is played with fans.

03.11.2023

However, because of the flexible interpretation of the regulations and the occasional change of opinion according to each team’s taste, it brings a feeling of injustice and inequality to the general public, with the prospect of unrepresentative reactions on the pitches growing, as well as the possibility of new punishments, it is necessary to get clarification from EPO’s Committee on Extraordinary Issues (as the only competent body after the Executive Committee, which cannot be convened immediately) the following:

Which interpretation of the same (from 2020) regulation is the correct one? The one that is being used for the first time now by Olympiacos, or last year’s – of the same team – which led to the decisive game for winning the championship between Olympiacos-Panathinaikos championship to be played without fans? What has changed and the same regulation can now be interpreted differently today both by the league, which has the same administration and the same legal service as a few months ago, and by Olympiacos, which also has the same administrative and legal composition?

We have requested via a letter to EPO an immediate clarification which is necessary, and will be the guide of what will happen in the future in similar punishments, and how effective and deterrent of dangerous incidents that they will be.
