Beitar vs. PAOK: Facts & Figures

- The 0-0 draw in the first leg against Beitar Jerusalem was PAOK’s 21st draw in European competitions, with 9 of those draws coming in group matches and 12 in knockout matches.
- The first 0-0 PAOK recorded in their European history was on September 13, 1972, when they drew with Rapid in Vienna, and in the second leg at the Toumba the 2-2 draw meant the team from Austria went through.
- In 1983-84, in the second round of the UEFA Cup against Bayern Munich, it was the first time that there had been a goalless draw in both of their matches in European play, and thus qualification was decided on penalties with a memorable 9-8 in favor of Germans. The first match at the Toumba and the second leg was held in Munich.
- In 1990-91, the scene was repeated, with PAOK drawing 0-0 in Seville, and in the second leg in Thessaloniki, the match was again goalless and finally the Spaniards took the qualification 4-3 on penalties.
- There was also a «double» match without goals being scored in the group stage, since in 2020-21 in the Europa League both games with Granada ended 0-0.
- PAOK’s last 0-0 draw in European competition before the game against Beitar was on November 25, 2021, at Slovan Bratislava – PAOK in the Conference League groups.
- For the 15th consecutive year, PAOK start their European campaign in July, or early August. The starting point of this «process» was on July 30, 2009 in the Valerega – PAOK 1-2 game, when the Double-headed Eagle played for the first time in a European game earlier than August.
- Since then, PAOK has entered every season early in the qualification process for European competitions, with nine of their first games taking place in July and five in August. This is the 10th for the month of July.
- This is the second time they have met Beitar in European competition, after the two rivals met in the 2000-01 UEFA Cup first round. PAOK won the first game 3-1 (44′ Camps, 48′ Cohen, 55′ Nalitzis – 39′ Hamar), and in the second leg in Israel the match ended in a 3-3 draw (45′ Sevilla, 54′ Abuksis, 61′ Sivilia – 5′ Katsambis, 43′ Nalitzis, 90′ Konstantinidis).
- After qualifying against Beitar, PAOK faced Udinese, where they advanced after extra time in the Toumba match, and then in the 3rd round they faced PSV Eindhoven, who eliminated PAOK.
- Beitar Jerusalem were the first team from Israel that PAOK faced in European competitions and then they next faced Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League qualifiers in 2004-05, when the Israelis lost the game at the Toumba for fielding an ineligible player.
- Then there was the clash with Bnei Yehuda, who they beat in both legs in the second qualifying round of the Europa League in 2012-13. They last faced Maccabi Haifa in the 2013-14 Europa League group stage, with a 3-2 win registerd at the Toumba and a 0-0 draw in their away encounter.
