One World, Two Sides [trailer]
Our friend Paraskevi Salavgia managed to make her dream come true thanks to PAOK Action to present to you the autobiographical social documentary “One World, Two Faces”.
Born prematurely with cerebral palsy, hemiplegia in her left side due to premature birth, Paraskevi fought her own struggle away from our eyes, «wrapped» in the love of her family. She battled for years so successfully that her disability almost passed into the realm of the invisible, the world of an «invisible» disability. She herself did not want to stay there.
Her dream was to speak to everyone with difficulties and their families. To encourage them to look for options, to find ways of empowerment and to enjoy life. Her vehicle for this is the autobiographical social documentary «One World, Two Sides» produced by PAOK Action.
Through this, Paraskevi documents her own journey, the experience of the choices she took advantage of, subscribing with confidence and optimism to a deafening «dare».
However, Paraskevi’s message is also addressed to everyone else, even from the title. It is addressed to eyes that are fooled, that forget that each person carries a whole world inside them and there…on the other side of the coin that we often overlook. The main axis of the film, beyond the options-suggestions from Paraskevi, is therefore the awareness of the part of the so-called «invisible» disability. A message of empathy, a prompt to think more about what the other person might be struggling with, with or without a disability.
It’s a wish for all of us, to love this one world we share, in every version.
«One World, Two Sides» premieres on Saturday (04.03) at 11:00 in the John Cassavetes Hall, warehouse 1 in the port of Thessaloniki, as part of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival 2023.
