And the BOX MVP of the 2021-22 season is… Jasmin Kurtic
He arrived last summer to strengthen PAOK’s midfield with his quality and experience. And he took a leading role from day one, and, beyond all expectations, ended up being the team’s top goal scorer. Ladies and gentlemen, Jasmin Kurtic is the BOX MVP of the 2021-22 season, the new holder of the “Platon Foropoulos” award.
His references were excellent. A midfielder with a long tenure in Serie A, a set-piece specialist with a strong personality, a player with an impeccable technique and endless passion. At PAOK he needed only a short period of adaptation to his new surroundings and the team’s system, as well as the wishes of Razvan Lucescu, and then he began quickly to justify the high expectations which came with his name.
The final report? 50 appearances, 3,831 minutes, three assists and 18 (!) goals – out of the 52 he has scored in total in his professional career. Kurtic earned the nickname Sniper, became the team’s top scorer in the 2021-22 season, and was one of the top midfielders in the Super League.
In the poll for the BOX MVP of the last season, Kurtic battled it out with Lefteris Lyratzis for the top of the preferences of PAOK fans, and in the final voting he collected 44.33% of the votes to win the «Platon Foropoulos» award.
Lyratzis had to settle for second place, but with his performances he proved that he will soon be back in the conversation, as he has his whole future ahead of him. In his first full season he secured a place in the starting XI and also became a full senior international with Greece.
The podium was completed by Alexandros Paschalakis. The Goldkeeper, who was the winner of the Players’ Player of the Season award, had a great season, and was not going to be missing out a top three spot.
