Under-15 side cruise into final [with pictures]
Three goals, a missed penalty, intense pressure and numerous opportunities. PAOK’s Under-15 team produced a brilliant display in the semi-final of the Final Four on Sunday, beating AEK 3-0 to claim a place in Wednesday’s final.
PAOK were the more energetic side, especially after they got over the anxiety of the first ten minutes. From that point on, it was one-way traffic, and they won a penalty in the 16th minute through Tsitsilas. Eleftheriadis stepped up to take the spot-kick, but the AEK goalkeeper reacted correctly and saved his effort. PAOK did not dwell on the missed opportunity, however, and went on to create at least three clear scoring chances before the referee blew the half-time whistle for the teams to go in at 0-0 at half-time.
In the second 40 minutes, the Double-headed Eagle dominated proceedings even more. In fact, PAOK were only threatened on one occasion on 42 minutes. PAOK were quick to respond though, and they went in front on 53 minutes. Eleftheriadis sent over a corner and Panos leaped highest to head home. The goal obviously worked in terms of boosting the confidence of the youngsters, and the subsequent pressure on the AEK goal intensified, resulting in a second goal for PAOK in the 74th minute when Dunga’s free-kick from the right was diverted into his own net by an AEK defender. The victory and the qualification to the final were sealed by Tsiotas in the closing seconds of the game.
