PAOK B celebrated their first game of 2022 with a victory, following a long break. The Double-headed Eagle won 2-1 at a battling Almopos in Aridea in their postponed Betsson Super League 2 Matchday 11 contest.

26.01.2022

As a result, PAOK moved on to 13 points from 10 games played so far, and they are already now preparing for the next game – and away clash against AEL on Saturday (29.01).

PAOK scored two goals through Chatzistravos and Koutsias within three minutes of each other mid-way through the first-half, and although the hosts reduced the deficit in the 56th minute, the visitors managed to hold on to their lead to claim the three points.

Overall, the match was a balanced affair. With the exception of Seho’s header in the third minute, which was saved well by Bourganis, the visitors had the better chances.

Chatzistravos opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty area, taking advantage of a low cross from Gordeziani on the right. And two minutes later, PAOK found the net again, this time with Koutsias. The young striker stole possession after a mistake by the opposing goalkeeper and rolled the ball into an empty net. Koutsias almost had a second goal – and a third for his side – in the 30th minute, but Paiteris saved well to snuff out the threat.

The second half was somewhat different as Almopos pushed forward more, and the visitors having to concede ground as they looked to defend their lead. The pressure of the hosts paid off in the 56th minute when Rovas scored to make it 2-1.

The Double-headed Eagle tried to maintain control of the ball thereafter, and to a large extent managed to do so as the game was played largely in midfield, although the hosts did threaten to equalize.

In fact, in added time, Souliotis almost levelled matters with a header, but thankfully for the visitors he failed to convert the chance and PAOK B held on to claim the win.

Team lineups:

Almopos Arideas: Paiteris, Souliotis, Gialamoudis (72′ Paraskevas), Collaras, Sehou, Aslampaloglou, Kerthi (72′ Bakoutsis), Gioukoudis, Prikas (85′ Zacharos), Triantafillakis (72′ Pettas), Rovas

PAOK B: Bourganis, Apostolopoulos, Tachatos, Koulierakis, Panagiotou, Giaxis, Salamouras (46′ Meletidis), Chatzistravos (92′ Tsopouroglou), Tsaousis, Koutsias (66′ Panidis), Gordeziani (46′ Tzimas).
