Crespo: «Focused on getting the win»

Jose Crespo spoke to Novasports to give his insights on the upcoming Super League Interwetten match against PAS Giannina at Zosimades. Read what the Spanish defender said via paokfc.gr.

On whether the victories over Lincoln and Lamia can help PAOK build up a long streak of victories:

«They definitely help us. We have gone through a bad period and these wins definitely provide us with a good boost in our confidence. But tomorrow we have a ‘battle’ of a game and we have to give it our all to achieve our goal. We want to give it our all and keep winning, and to improve the situation we are in.»

On how PAOK will approach the match with PAS:

«It is a difficult game against a very capable opponent. Every year they are a difficult team to play at their ground. This year they are flying high in the standings, they are a team with quality and good characteristics overall, and so it will be difficult. We did not have a lot of time to prepare, but we are focused; we have worked well and we will go there to win, that’s our only goal  – to return to Thessaloniki with the three points.»

On what conclusions he has drawn from the first half of the season so far:

«Generally the first half of the season has not been good for us. We did not play well, and although we may have won some games, some derbies, our overall playing style and how we perform in matches has not been what we wanted and expected. We wanted to be better. But we put it aside and aim on getting better. We have three games ahead of us until the end of the year and we are going to give it our all in each and every one of them.We want to win them all and then we are going to rest to charge out batteries for the next year. We do not deserve to be in this position. We have to make a comeback for ourselves, but also for all those who support us, so that we can get to the position we deserve to be.»

On the team’s injury problems this season, his own fitness, and how much they have affected PAOK:

«My condition is good now. I had some problems as you know. I played in some games because I wanted to help, but my body was not 100% ready. We tried to do some management of the injury, and we are still doing so as not to risk a relapse. I feel good though. We’ve had a lot of problems since the beginning of the year. There are injured players who have not have played much, but when they came into the rotation they were then forced to stay out for a long time. And then there’s some players who had to play a lot of games with the consequence that they are not as fresh as they maybe would have been, and they cannot be constantly at their maximum performance levels. It is a difficult period. It is also a matter of misfortune, what has happened to us. I am not looking for excuses, but you also need to have some luck, and not have injuries so that you can all work together to improve the performance of the team and produce better results.»
