An update concerning the New Toumba
The latest developments from the previous week were summarized at the weekly working meeting held between Ivan Savvidis and the staff in charge of the New Toumba project.
The results of another constructive meeting with the Regional Govenor Apostolos Tzitzikostas, and also was noted in the discussion with the Mayor of Thessaloniki Konstantinos Zervas were both analyzed.
PAOK FC’s decision to confirm the home ground of Makedonikos also as the home of PAOK B was confirmed, in an agreement which will see part of the rent offset with the necessary infrastructure projects, taking into account the requirements for the safe and proper operation of the venue for the daily life of the team. Mr. Savvidis thanked the Makedonikos administration for the immediate resolution of the issues.
On the occasion of this development, there was a great opportunity lost for the Kaftanzogleio Stadium to receive funding from a private investor for projects worth over 2 million euros, which would have stopped the process of dismantling all of the stadium’s infrastructure for the benefit of the city and the athletes of Thessaloniki, was emphasized. but also to secure the FIFA-UEFA requirements for sports facilities of this level, due to setbacks and delays of more than a year for a simple ministerial decision.
The PAOK President demanded that his associates stop any further discussions of a «political nature» that do not offer anything towards the implementation of the project of the new stadium. From now on, all of the ministries, services, politicians and technocrats involved must follow the path of deeds and actions versus words, expecting the same political benefit.
There should be zero tolerance and any cooperation with anyone who displays offensive behavior towards the club should be stopped immediately.
Finally, representatives of the club held a meeting at the Maximos Palace, where the current state of affairs was discussed, and it was decided that from now on the coordination will be done directly from Maximos Palace. The purpose of this decision is to minimize the bureaucracy, to avoid any undermining by some ministries and services – both in terms of work on the design and construction of the New Toumba, as well as the temporary relocation of PAOK FC during the construction period, thus improving efficiency and ensuring timely decision making.
