23.06.2021

The season that recently came to an end left us with many different emotions. PAOK came to within a hair’s breadth of reaching the Champions League group stage, played in the Europa League groups, where it failed to progress to the knockout stage. However, the team came second in the Super League Interwetten Play Offs, and finished the season with a title by winning the Greek Cup at the OAKA against Olympiacos.

Throughout this remarkable journey, paokfc.gr and the PAOK FC Official App invited you to vote for the best goal every month. And this is how the nine finalists were picked out for the final of … finals. Now it’s time to see who will be the winner of the Regency Casino Best Goal of 2020-21 award.

Andrija Zivkovic has two contending strikes. The Serb started the season impressively and in the Champions League qualifiers he inflicted a measure of pain on his former club. Giannoulis surged passed Benfica’s defense as if they were statues, and passed to Zile, who locked up the qualification with an impressive finish.

The winger’s second goal is from the Toumba derby against AEK in March. Schwab’s free-kick was nodded on by Ingason, and Zivkovic arrived to score with an extremely powerful shot.

Karol Swiderski also has two contenders. Against OFI in October, the Polish forward produced a great strike fron distance following an assist by Tzolis, while in April against Asteras Tripolis in the Play Offs he scored a real center forward’s goal, taking on the ball from Douglas Augusto’s pass, he produced a great turn away from a defender before scoring with a clinical finish.

The last with two contenders is Christos Tzolis. The Golden Boy won the Best Goal award in December and January with two great goals.

His first was a curling effort against Asteras Tripolis at the Toumba in the Super League Interwetten, while he one of his hat-trick strikes against Larissa in the first leg match between the two teams in the Greek Cup is also in the running. In Thessaloniki, Tzolis controlled the ball impressively after a long ball from Douglas Augusto, before skiping past the goalkeeper and finishing from an acute angle.

Our next candidate is Nika Ninua. The Georgian scored a goal of rare beauty in the game in Agrinio against Panetolikos in November, netting with a curling free-kick in the last minutes of the match to win the game for PAOK.

Of course, Rodrigo Soares could not be absent from the conversation. He was looking for his first goal with the club for a long time, and in the game against Lamia in the Greek Cup he finally found it, making sure to do it in a beautiful way. The Brazilian collected possession on the edge of the penalty area and with a sudden snapshot, with his body out of balance, sent the ball into the top corner.

Last but not least, Michael Krmencik. The Czech forward came to the club in the winter transfer window, but got into the groove quickly. He helped the team a lot, but he kept the best for last. Krmencik came off the bench in the Greek Cup final against Olympiacos at the OAKA, raced onto a superb assist from Andrija Zivkovic , who took out the entire Olmypiacos defence with an outrageous backheel pass, and finished clinically to clinch the victory.

And now the word goes to you. Watch the video prepared by the PAOK TV team featuring the nine candidate goals and vote for your top goal for the 2020-21 season.
