Paschalakis wins Protergia Fans’ Man of the Match award
Alexandros Paschalakis came out on top in the poll for the Protergia Fans’ Man of the Match for the Greek Cup final win over Olympiacos at the Olympic Stadium in Athens.
It was an exceptional match. A final of high quality, played at a frenetic pace, with many chances in front of goal for both teams, but the Double-headed Eagle were triumphant in the end, winning the Greek Cup for the fourth time in the last five years.
There were many major protagonists. The team’s back three of Vieirinha, Crespo, and Varela all put in Herculean displays, while Douglas and Schwab worked tirelessly in midfield. Then there is Rodrigo and Baba who both gave the team options aplenty with their wingback play, and Swiderski who battled manfully throughout as the lone frontman. The replacements, Tsingaras and Krmencik, who came off the bench, helped also to change the balance of the game during the last 10 minutes.
And then of course there is Alexandros Paschalakis. The Goldkeeper ended a difficult season with a stunning performance. The big goalkeeper was there whenever his team needed him, making a string of saves to deny – among others – Bruma, Masouras, and Bouchalakis, showing absolute concentration and dedication to his task.
In the poll for Protergia Fans’ Man of the Match, Paschalakis received 70% of the votes to claim the individual award.
The only teammate who managed to collect a double-digit percentage was Michael Krmencik. The Czech came on as a substitute and netted the winning goal.
