And now… derby time

As strange as it may sound, the match against Volos was more a psychological battle than game of football. It was one of those occasions whereby the main opponent is actually one’s own self and thoughts. The quick goal made life difficult for PAOK, but the response from the team was the most important aspect of the match. Especially ahead of a derby clash.

11.01.2021

PAOK got the win the team needed after a dififcult week, showing character and purpose. And now the players are called upon to produce an even better performance to win the match against Olympiacos and make up ground in the battle for the top.

It is a match that requires absolutely concentration, patience and composure, so that the team can manage the game in the best possible way. The coaching team have just two days to prepare for the big match, and work began on Monday (11.01) with the now firmly established routine of Covid-19 tests.

The players who started the match against Volos followed a recovery and recuperation program with the physios and in the gym. The rest of the group went out onto the practice pitches for a high-intensity training session with a heavy emphasis placed on passing and possession.

Enea Mihaj continued his treatment and physiotherapy. Dimitris Giannoulis, who is struggling with a calf problem following a knock in the game against Atromitos, remained in the gym. The Greek international defender will undergo an MRI scan in order to determine the extent of the problem.

On Tuesday (12.01) PAOK will train at 11:00 in Nea Mesimvria.
