Vote for the Regency Casino Best Goal of 2020

Paokfc.gr, the PAOK FC Official App, and Regency Casino cordially invite you to choose PAOK’s goal of the year.

31.12.2020

The year 2020 is finally leaving the building with the label of the worst year ever, as described by TIME magazine. But we, positive people by nature, choose to keep hold of the positive moments from it all, and believe that the future will bring us even more positivity.

In football, goals are the definition of a positive moment. And despite the Covid-19 pandemic we saw many wonderful goals, even if most of them were seen through a screen and not from the stands of the Toumba. And now, paokfc.gr and the PAOK FC Official App, in collaboration with Regency Casino, call on you to select the best PAOK goal of the year.

There are right beautiful goals to choose from, seven different scorers, but only one prize for the best.

The first contender is Lazaros Lamprou. In January, in a Greek Cup match against OFI, he started his run to goal from way out on the touchline. The winger dribbled past whoever tried to stop him and produced a clinical finish to cap a fine individual effort.

In February, Douglas Augusto took aim from a position he had no right to score from and left the Larissa goalkeeper wondering where the ball went. The answer to that question came a few seconds later when he picked the ball out of net.

The pandemic struck and so there were no goals in the spring, but then summer arrived and it was packed with them. Christos Tzolis scored his first goal for PAOK in the Play Offs against OFI. A wonderful, aerial finish. He may not have enjoyed it as much as he should have due to its temporary cancellation before VAR intervened, but the strike is in contention.

In July, another youngster from PAOK’s Nouvelle Vague got in on the act. It was Giannis Michailidis this time, and the opponents were OFI once again. His effort was a delicious free-kick at the ‘Yedi Koule’.

The next candidate is Andrija Zivkovic, with his first goal for the club. His strike showed that, in football, karma is indeed a bitch. The Serbian midfielder provided a personal; answer to [Benfica coach] Jorge Jesus, who did not want him at the club by making it 2-0 to PAOK after an individual effort by Dimitris Giannoulis, and his strike is in the running to win the Regency Casino Best Goal of 2020.

For Karol Swiderski, his contending strike was not his first goal for the club of course. Swarovski’s contender is his lob from outside the penalty area in a match against (a simple coincidence here) OFI.

The seventh candidate is Nika Ninua, who opened his PAOK account with a swerving free-kick. The victims this time were Panetolikos.

Last but not least it’s the Golden Boy again. Christos Tziolis scored a superb goal against Asteras Tripolis and has two strikes in contention for the goal of the year.
