  • PAOK needed a complete decade to come up against Spanish opposition once more. The last time the club faced a team from Spain was November 4 2010 at the Toumba in front of 23.000 fans against Villarreal. Andre Vieirinha scored the only goal of the game (1-0) from Pablo Garcia’s assist.
  • In the first match between the two clubs was in the UEFA Europa League group phase with PAOK losing 1-0 at the El Madrigal. Marco Ruben scored the only goal in the match in Spain.
  • Overall, PAOK have faced Spanish opposition 11 times – all of which have been in the UEFA Cup, either in its former format, or in the now Europa League.
  • The first encounter came on September 16 1975 against Barcelona who had a certain Johan Cruyff in the team. PAOK won 1-0 in Thessaloniki (72’ Koudas). In the return match, however, the Double-headed Eagle lost 6-1.
  • After that, there were two matches against Sevilla in the 1982-83 and 1990-91 seasons, and both times PAOK were eliminated after a 4-0 loss in Spain, despite having won 2-0 in Thessaloniki. In their second meeting, qualification was decided on penalties in favor of Sevilla following two 0-0 draws.
