Omonia vs. PAOK: Facts & Figures
Ahead of PAOK’s UEFA Europa League 2020-21 Matchday 5 contest against Omonia, paokfc.gr puts you in the picture about the background to the match, as well as a look back at our previous history against the Cypriot side and in the group stage in general.
- This is the sixth match between PAOK and Omonia. In the previous five meetings, three of them came in the European Cup and two in the Αlpha Ethniki Greek top flight.
- In European competition there were two draws via a 1-1 scorelinem both of which came at the Toumba, in the 1976-77 Champions Cup and on October 22 2020 on Matchday 1 of this season’s Europa League. In the 1976-77 season, PAOK won 2-0 in Cyprus and progressed to the next round following a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Thessaloniki.
- That season, Stavros Sarafis scored in both matches against Omonia, while he also scored in a 3-1 win over the Cypriots in the Αlpha Εthniki league on September 17 1972 at the Toumba. He is the only player to have scored three of the four goals in those four matches against Omonia, while Apostolidis and Aslanidis were on target in league matches, and Giorgos Koudas found the net in both matches which took place in Cyprus – in the league (1972-73) and in the European games.
- Overall, PAOK has recorded three wins and two draws in five matches, while the Double-headed Eagle have scored in all of the matches against Omonia, while the Cypriot team have not scored against PAOK in a European game at home.
- The last away win for PAOK in the Europa League came on October 4 2018, when the Double-headed Eagle won 4-1 against BATE Borisov. Since that away success, PAOK have draw one and lost three of the four matches it has played away from Thessaloniki. Those matches are the following : a 0-0 draw with Granada in the current season as well as the 2-3 loss to PSV Eindhoven, a 1-0 loss to Vidi, and a 4-0 defeat by Chelsea in the 2018-19 Europa League.
