PAOK chalk up 100 matches in Europe
The match against PSV Eindhoven on Matchday 3 of the UEFA Europa League group stage has historical significance for the Double-headed Eagle, since it was the club’s 100th home match in European competitions.
The journey began on September 15, 1965 at the Kaftanzoglio Stadium. On that night, PAOK played host to Wiener SK in the then Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, and defeated the Austrian club 2-1.
The first goal scored by a PAOK player in an official European match was Giorgos Koudas in the 62nd minute. In that game, Stratos Mouratidis was also on target. Rafreider was the opposition player who scored the first goal which PAOK conceded.
PAOK got to the half-way point of the 100 games in 2010 in the match against Ajax which ended 3-3 on August 4, 2010. That was the 50th home game in Europe for PAOK.
In the last decade, the Double-headed Eagle has played another 50 matches at home.
In the 100 home matches the club have played so far, PAOK have won 50, drawn 23 and lost 27 of them, while the goal count reads 169 for and 109 against. The most popular result is 1-0 with 11 appearances, while the second most popular result is 1-1 with 10 appearances.
Most of the losses have been by a 1-0 scoreline (8 times), while the biggest win was a 6-0 victory over Lokomotiv Zagreb in the 2015-16 season.
The most goals scored in a single match are 8, and that has happened on two occasions, and in the same season. Both happened in the 1997-98, when PAOK beat Spartak Trnava 5-3 and also drew 4-4 with Atletico Madrid.
