Under-19’s clinch derby victory over AEK
The Under-19 side started 2020 in much the same way as they ended 2019 on Saturday, with yet another victory. The latest “victim” of the team’s unstoppable run was ΑΕΚ, who they defeated 2-0 at Souroti on Matchday 18 of the 2019-20 Super League.
After a disjointed opening 10 minutes, Pablo Garcia and Miroslav Schnauzner’s players did not give their opponents so much as a sniff of a chance, dominating the match.
PAOK did not allow AEK to get inside their penalty area at all, and at the same time showed patience and composure as they set about building attacks to break through the visitors’ backline. One of the most important phases of the match came after 17 minutes. Doumtsis won a penalty after being fouled in the penalty area and dusted himself down to take the spot-kick himself and convert it to make it 1-0. Despite creating a plethora of chances thereafter, PAOK did not add to their lead before half-time.
Garcia’s team enjoyed an ideal start to the second half, with a superb team goal after 54 minutes in which Tziolis squared for Koutsias to score, giving the home side a 2-0 advantage which they never relinquished.
PAOK’s young guns continued their impressive unbeaten run, which now extends to 62 matches – a run which began in December 2017 and stretches into a fourth successive calendar year.
