A song of ice… on fire
We are pretty sure that Mr. George R. R. Martin will approve of paraphrasing the title of his famous story, and it’s the only way we can describe the form that Sverrir Ingi Ingason has been in during December. The ice caught… fire and you have voted for the defender as our most valuable player for December.
Cool, calm and collected is how you could describe the way Ingason has played in December. But at the same time, he has been dynamic, fully focused on the coach’s instructions and among the goals.
After joining the club just 12 months ago, this season he has been thrust into the deep end due to injuries suffered by Jose Crespo and Fernando Varela, but he has taken it all in his stride. He has kept working hard and showed great patience to be given his chance when the call came from Abel Ferreira and it is as though he has always been a permanent fixture at the back. In November he was voted as the player of the month. And his form has meant that in December he has also taken the accolade for a second time in succession.
In the five games played, he has not missed a single minute. In his defensive duties he has been flawless. Where he has really made the difference though is in attack. Four games in five matches, a performance making even the club’s strikers jealous. The highlight was definitely his goal at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium against Olympiacos.
In the voting for the MVP of December via paokfc.gr and the PAOK FC Official App, The Iceman collected 66,33% of the votes to win the award.
In second place was Mr Vertical, aka Josip Misic, who has been in scintillating form since the start of the season, while The Leader, aka Andre Vierinha, who has moved through the gears since his return from a serious knee injury, was third.
