Vote for December’s 11888 MVP
Five matches, four wins, one away draw at Olympiacos and climbing two points clear at the top of the table. December was an exceptional month for PAOK and now, paokfc.gr, the PAOK FC Official App, and 11888 “for everything”, gives you the chance to cast your vote for the most valuable player for the month. It’s over to you…
Abel Ferreira’s team started the month with a draw at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium, before going on to record four successive victories, beating Xanthi and Atromitos at the Toumba, and winning at Panionios and Panetolikos. The goal tally was 13 with just two conceded. It’s time to see which three players stood out.
The first candidate is the unique Sverrir Ingi Ingason. The Icelandic defender, who won the award for November, was in superb form. At the start he was at his brilliant best at the back, playing in four matches alongside Jose Crespo, and one with Fernando Varela, providing the team with an air of security within the backline. Where he really came into his own, however, was up at the other end of the pitch in front of goal.
The Iceman scored four times (!), netting at the Karaiskakis, Nea Smyrni, and against Atromitos at the Toumba – performances which made him the club’s top scorer for December.
Josip Misic was also at his exceptional best. Mr Vertical impressed once more in the last month as the engine room of the team. Playing with intelligence and always looking to attack, while providing good cover in front of the back four. And of course, an image of calmness, even when the ball was literally a hot potato. The Croatian chalked up another two assists and one goal, while playing every minute of every game.
The third contender is our captain. Even if it’s clear that Adelino Vierinha is still trying to find his best rhythm after returning from a serious injury, he continues to fulfill his role as The Leader of the club and makes sure that he is there for the team when he is needed. The Portuguese opened the scoring against Atromitos with a deflected free-kick, came off the bench in Nea Smyrni and changed the face of the game completely, with both goals coming from his set-pieces, and overall is building up a head of steam with every passing week.
