PAOK means… goals and records
Josip Misic’s goal against OFI Crete in Heraklion not only helped PAOK win another important three-point haul, but it also saw the club create another record in Greek football history.
PAOK scored for the 30th match in succession away from home, breaking the superb previous record held by Panathinaikos from the 1960’s. The Trifylli managed 29 matches, the same number PAOK had reached before Saturday’s clash at the Yedi Kule. And in Heraklion, Josip Misic put the seal on yet another great achievement from a team that, as time goes by, even for the neutral observer is arguably one of the most impressive we have seen in Greece.
In parallel, the Double-headed Eagle of the North also scored for the 59th consecutive match and is now the holder of the longest run of games in scoring too. The team have taken that record previously held by Panathinaikos, again from the 1960’s, when the Greens had scored for 57 matches in a row from the end of the 1962-63 season, to 17 matches into the 1964-65 season. Their hot streak was ended by a goalless draw at the Toumba, of all places.
Now, since a 1-0 loss to AEK at the OAKA on November 5 2017, PAOK has scored in every league game the team has played
The best away record in Europe
As PAOK continues to score goals, then the chances of winning away from home are of course increased. The team’s unbeaten run has now stretched to 22 matches away from home, and PAOK now has the best away record of any team in Europe. From those 22 games PAOK has recorded 18 wins and four draws among those matches. Since losing to Asteras Tripolis on Match 4 2018, PAOK is now unbeaten in 45 matches overall.
Shakhtar Donetsk is in second place with 16 games unbeaten away from home, while in third place are Benfica, who have 14 – all of them victories. Liverpool are also unbeaten in 14 matches away from their Anfield home, with 10 wins and four draws.
