Another robust and consistent display from the Under-19’s saw them chalk up a second consecutive Super League victory (fourth overall) courtesy of a 2-1 away success at Asteras Tripolis – a result which saw the team move on to 14 points and up to second in the table behind league leaders Panathinaikos.

In a match full of enthralling individual duels, intensity and a plethora of opportunities, Garcia’s and Sznaucner‘s team got themselves in front early on. They then managed to keep a lively Tripolis side at bay for long spells, and finally come away with three vital points against very tough opponents.

Panidis opened the scoring for PAOK after 11 minutes, side-footing the ball home from Tziolis’ cross. There had been an earlier chance to go ahead, but Gaitanidis found the woodwork instead of the net in the second minute. Asteras had a great chance to level the match in the 16th minute when they were awarded a penalty, but the Arcadians failed to convert the spot-kick.

The second half was characterized by pressure from Asteras to try and pull level, but with PAOK also looking to score a second on the break to kill the game off. And PAOK did just that in the 65th minute with Panidis again the player on target with a header from Gaitanidis‘ assist.

Asteras did eventually pull a goal back in the 80th minute, and in their efforts to try and find an equalizer the hosts were reduced to nine players following a flurry of hard tackles and foul play.

PAOK lineup: Tachlimanidis, Panagiotou, Giaxis, Tachatos, Kaloutsikidis, Tsiggaras, Salamouras, Theodoridis, Gaitanidis (66′ Pounaras), Tziolis (76’ Tsopouroglou), Panidis (86’ Koutsias).
