Two years of titles

In summer 2017, he was called to contain a crisis created by the former coach’s departure. Two years later, PAOK have to deal with his own departure. Răzvan Lucescu leaves the “Double-Headed Eagle” having led them to three titles and several records.

The Romanian coach didn’t start his PAOK career on the right foot. The elimination by Östersunds FK in the UEFA Europa League play-offs meant that the “Double-Headed Eagle” would not participate in the group stage of the competition for the first time after several years.

It turned out to be a blessing in disguise though. Lucescu was given the opportunity to work with his players and build a side that crushed domestic rivals.

With Lucescu at the helm, PAOK actually won everything –and in emphatic fashion. They lost the 2017-18 league on paper, but went on to win the Greek Cup with a commanding performance, prevailing over AEK Athens in the Olympic Stadium of Athens.

In 2018-19, PAOK returned at the top, winning the league undefeated and claiming the Greek Cup for a third consecutive season. During Lucescu’s two-year tenure, PAOK recorded 69 wins, 12 draws and suffered 12 defeats, scoring 195 goals and conceding 64 in the process.

The Romanian coach has a 74,2% winning percentage with PAOK, topping the respective list.

PAOK wish to thank Răzvan Lucescu for his valuable contribution to the club and turn over a new leaf on their quest to remain at the top.
