It may sound weird, but José Alberto Cañas is among the candidates. Before joining PAOK, he hadn’t scored in official games. He managed to break that duck in Thessaloniki –and in impressive fashion. His goal against FC Basel in Switzerland, the first PAOK goal of 2018-19 season, is a serious contender for the accolade.
Aleksandar Prijović could not be absent from the short list. He left PAOK for Al Ittihad in January, but had already managed to net 18 goals in the first half of the season. The ones against AEK Athens in Toumba and in the away game against Levadiakos were his best.
Dimitris Pelkas has two goals up for consideration in this poll. The Joker’s stats this season were not as high as in 2017-18, but he remained a vital cog in PAOK’s team. He scored a beauty against BATE Borisov in Belarus and netted another screamer in AEL FC Arena.
The artist Diego Biseswar couldn’t be absent from this short list. His outstanding goal against Ergotelis in Crete for the Greek Cup is a contender for the season’s award.
Adelino Vieirinha was goalless in the first half of the season. But, once the second half kicked off, the Joker was on fire! He earned the “Best Goal of the month” award three times in a row: for his direct free kick in Tripolis, for his volley against Aris in Toumba and then was directly awarded the prize for his astonishing goal in Agrinio against Panetolikos.
Last but not least, Chuba Akpom. AK47 saved the best for last. With an incredible overhead kick he won the Greek Cup for PAOK, earning a place in the Regency Casino Best Goal of the Season poll.
