«Focused on the plan»
Stelios Malezas spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the upcoming encounter against Levadiakos in Toumba Stadium.
Whether he considers himself the pack leader:
«It depends on how others perceive me. If the guys consider me as such, then I am very glad. Sometimes I go down memory lane, but what I am interested in right now is my future, so that I can do the best for my family and my team«.
How he experienced the current season:
«I experienced it from a different angle, the angle of a ‘fan’ enjoying the games! I also had the player’s stress and wanted to help the team, either in the trainings or whenever called to play«.
Regarding PAOK’s previous league title in 1985 and his age:
«I was a few weeks old back then… The most important now is to make sure that everything goes well on Saturday and enjoy this experience. If we do our job on Sunday, we will experience something unique«.
Regarding his PAOK career:
«I have spent many good and bad moments. I went through difficult moments, when we were unpaid for a long time. Years of patience, years when we had a good reason to expect something more or no good reason to think that we could be successful. What matters the most? Let’s achieve our objective this Sunday, it’s an objective of many years«.
Regarding the difference between this PAOK team and the previous ones:
«There have been times, like in 2010, when we came close to a league title with Santos at the helm. Last season as well, the season before it… The difference being that in the current season we didn’t drop points in the first encounters. In previous seasons, we were left behind at the start, tried for a comeback, came close to it, but winning the league title was too hard. We had lost points and the other contenders were unbothered even with draws«.
On the link with the previous PAOK sides, Vieirinha and his injury:
«All three of us were there, with Glykos. What can I say about André? He gave everything to bring the team close to the league title, he helped as a skipper should, he bailed us out of complicated situations. We respect and admire his personality. Unfortunately there are unlucky moments in football that catch us unawares«.
Regarding the fans eagerly awaiting for the league title and whether that can affect the team:
«I can safely say that nobody in the team takes the league title for granted. We are focused on our objective and our plan and we have our feet on the ground so far«.
