Xanthi added themselves to the list of teams unable to slow down the pupils of Pablo García and Mirosław Sznaucner in this season’s Super League Souroti U19.

The first half of the encounter in Xanthi was rather balanced, PAOK playing against the wind. Both sides created noteworthy opportunities to break the deadlock. Tzovaras and Tsaousis missed a great double chance in the 19th minute. Eight minutes later, Xanthi had a shot on woodwork following a free kick. The home side forced an excellent save out of Talichmanidis later on, while Tzovaras missed his shot from a favourable position in the 33rd minute. The first half ended without goals.

After the interval, the complexion of the match changed considerably. García’s troops were determined to score and created a host of opportunities.

They got their reward at the stroke of the hour. Chatzistravos’s excellent effort ended up in a perfect cross, collected by Diamantis who poked the ball home for the 1-0 victory.

PAOK pressed further to increase their lead. Tzovaras hit the post in the 71st minute and wasted two more opportunities. Substitute Panidis also fired wide.

The final whistle signaled the start of the celebrations for the youngsters of the “Double-Headed Eagle” who sealed the league title with seven games left until the end of the season.
