#TheGoldkeeper’s Top 10
Alexandros Paschalakis will remain in Toumba Stadium until 2002 and paokfc.gr along with PAOK TV bring you his Top 10 goalkeeping highlights. Enjoy!
He has defended PAOK’s goal in 56 encounters and has kept a clean sheet 31 times. He was extremely busy in some matches. In other games, he just had to intervene once. He was always present though.
Alexandros Paschalakis extended his contract with the “Double-Headed Eagle” and, to mark the occasion, PAOK TV brings you his top 10 moments at PAOK.
10. Stopping Loftus-Cheek
It all went south for PAOK in “Stamford Bridge” against Chelsea. However Paschalakis produced a stunning save to deny Loftus-Cheek. This action is low on our list only because it’s combined with a heavy defeat.
9. Against a… team-mate
It was the 20th minute of the encounter against Panathinaikos and the “Greens” were looking for the opener. Paschalakis came up against two former team-mates. Kaçe produced the cross and Mystakidis unleashed a fierce shot from close range, but the shot-stopper of PAOK was there to intervene.
8. Take off in Basel
Although the “Double-Headed Eagle” were already leading 3-0, having all but secured qualification, Paschalakis was determined to keep his goal intact. He produced a stunning and extremely difficult save in the final minutes of the away encounter against Basel.
7. Grimaldo stopped at his tracks
SL Benfica were held to a 1-1 draw in Lisbon by PAOK, partly thanks to Alexandros Paschalakis’s outstanding display. The goalkeeper of the “Double-Headed Eagle” made a string of fine saves, the one against Grimaldo standing out.
6. Paschalakis v Promes
In one of the most spectacular encounters of their European history, PAOK found themselves trailing 2-0 but managed to turn the tie around and take a 3-2 lead before the interval. #TheGoldkeeper did his part in the second half. Promes stepped forward to take the spot kick, but Paschalakis denied him.
5. Providing an assist to Prijović
It was a rare, yet impressive play. How often does a goalkeeper tee up his team-mate with a goal kick? Paschalakis did that as well. He lifted his head, saw Prijović charging forward and set him up with only Basel’s goalkeeper to beat.
4. One-man show in Tripolis
PAOK cruised past Asteras in Tripolis scoring three goals in the second half. The attacking players of t he “Double-Headed Eagle” stole the show after the interval, but Alexandros Paschalakis stood out in the first 45 miinutes. Allow us to offer you two plays here, one save in a one-on-one situation and a double one.
3. Buzzer-beater save in “Karaiskakis”
PAOK were holding on to their lead after Vuković’s own-goal. Olympiakos pushed for an equalizer, but couldn’t beat excellent Paschalakis. The latter’s finest moment came in the 90th minute, when he denied Hassan in a one-on-one.
2. Muting “Kleanthis Vikelidis”
Younés took the penalty shot, a powerful kick aiming at the centre. Paschalakis saved with his feet, keeping the 1-1 on the scoreboard and muting the premature celebrations of Aris fans in “Kleanthis Vikelidis”.
1. A save worth a title in the Olympic Stadium of Athens
Vieirinha had fired PAOK ahead. AEK applied more pressure in the last stretch of the encounter, looking for an equalizer that would lead proceedings to extra-time. In the 82nd minute, the ball landed at the feet of Araujo outside the box and the Argentinian fired a low powerful shot. Despite his view hindered by many bodies, #TheGoldkeeper provided the solution once again and kept a clean sheet in the Greek Cup final as well.
