“Work for three points”

Răzvan Lucescu spoke to Novasports TV ahead of PAOK’s upcoming encounter against OFI Crete for Super League Souroti matchday 18. Here is what the Romanian tactician said:

25.01.2019

Regarding the Greek Cup quarter-finals’ draw against Panionios:

«We will be ready when time comes for the two Greek Cup games. We are interested in the Greek Cup and will fight for it. But now we only focus on the match against OFI Crete«.

Regarding the encounter against OFI Crete:

«Every game is tough. Some teams fight for the league title, others fight to avoid relegation. OFI Crete are desperate for points and it will be a difficult match. In order to win, we must maintain our focus and work hard on the pitch. Our quality and our history won’t win us matches, unless we back them up with our effort. We will approach this game determined to get three points«.

Regarding the coaching change at OFI Crete:

«I never talk about other teams’ issues«.

Regarding the players available to him for Sunday:

«Cañas started training normally on Monday. He is motivated and works hard, he wants to play. Pelkas faced some problems, but now he is fine and has been training in high intensity. He is very ambitious. We are going through a period of back-to-back encounters every three days and it’s positive to have all our players available and in fine physical and mental condition«.

Regaring the newcomers and if they are ready to play:

«They will join the squad step by step. Giannoulis has just had two trainings with us. Świderski was on vacation before joining us. But he is young and motivated. He is working intensely in order to play as soon as possible. Giannoulis is Greek, he knows the language and the club, having been a part of the team in the past, therefore he could be ready to play come Sunday«.

Regarding the issue of El Kaddouri:

«He will be with us in Toumba on Sunday. I hope he will be here after Sunday as well. That’s life, that’s football. We will continue working for our upcoming game regardless of what happens«.

Whether there will be more signings:

«I don’t want to talk about this. I want to speak about the players we already have. It’s difficult to build a compact team with chemistry. It needs work. Signing players in the winter transfer window is tricky. Players who will adjust quickly and contribute to the team are hard to find«.

Regarding the team’s reaction after the departure of Prijović and their efficiency:

«Every game is a different story. Everything is fine now. We should get stuck in the past. Sometimes we score easily, sometimes it’s harder. But we need to win all our matches«.
