«We emerge stronger through adversity»

Răzvan Lucescu spoke to Novasports TV two days before the “Double-Headed Eagle’s” tough outing to Tripolis for their encounter against Asteras, corresponding to Super League Souroti day 16. Read on paokfc.gr what the Romanian tactician said:

11.01.2019

On his condition:

«The holiday break was tough –therefore I am feeling so and so, because I got a heavy cold. The adverse weather conditions messed with our preparations, the transfer window is open, we lost at Patras and so on… But I believe that such situations can lead to something great».

On Prijović:

«Prijović is a fantastic player and person. He gave a lot to PAOK and took a lot from us. He will always be in my heart».

Whether he expected his departure:

«It was a surprise for me. However we have a strong squad and we will find solutions».

Whether the team are ready for the upcoming encounters:

«We are fine. We have a strong team with a solid style. We are trying to improve our performances and achieve balance between trainings and matches. We are working hard in our sessions and focus on upcoming games. We are motivated to reach all our goals».

Whether they will sign a striker:

«Yes, we need to sign a striker – it will be a solid move for PAOK. We have Akpom who is talented and needs competitive rhythm in order to perform better, and we also have Karelis who features most as a second striker. We also have some alternative options on who can cover the void, but I won’t go into details. The fact that Prijović left means we have to acquire a new striker to keep the balance. I don’t want to talk more about it though, as we have a game on Sunday and we shouldn’t focus more on the transfers issues».

On Asteras Tripolis:

«In my opinion, Asteras are the most dangerous team after the trio PAOK-Olympiakos-AEK. Their coach achieved a significant change in their mentality and philosophy. They are on a four-match winning streak in the league. They are physically strong, but also enjoy having possession and placing many players in the rival box, creating threatening situations».
