“Six finals ahead of us”
Răzvan Lucescu spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the upcoming away encounter against Lamia. Here is what he said:
On the team’s condition after the encounter against Chelsea:
«The team are in very good condition. We have been speaking non-stop to the players before the match against Lamia. We have six finals ahead of us. We want to remain at the top, to qualify to the next round of the Greek Cup and to secure qualification in the UEFA Europa League knockout stages as well. We have worked considerably since June. We have achieved a lot and we will give it all until the holiday break. If we manage all that, we will be the happiest team in the country. We are in very good condition as you can see».
On the encounter in London:
«I don’t want to keep anything. Perhaps the 70 minutes of Maurício and Vieirinha featuring for 90 minutes after a long time. From now on they will get more time on the pitch. It’s also a good thing that some players got to rest. It was impossible to be in control of proceedings in London against Chelsea, especially being one man down».
On whether he considers the clashes against big clubs as an opportunity to draw lessons:
«It’s normal to collect valuable experience when faced with such teams. It’s a morale-boostsing process, testing one’s strength against the top sides who practice different styles of football. One gets to witness different pace patterns and face players who make the difference with a single action. The pressure of such games enables us to face the tough domestic encounters».
On the fact that PAOK can still clinch qualification to the next round of the UEFA Europa League:
«I have already spoken about it and explained the situation. We are currently in good condition, we have six games ahead of us and want to win them all and be relaxed before the Christmas break».
On what is harder: the matches or the upcoming winter transfer window:
«I am focused on the matches, starting with the one against Lamia. We have already worked for this game, despite having to negotiate the Chelsea encounter. We are ready for a difficult game on a tricky pitch. We have people in our administration who will deal with transfers. We worked hard to get ahead. We had will, we made sacrifices, we worked hard, we also had luck and we want to record only wins until Christmas».
On the Lamia match:
«Tough game. Our rivals are aggressive and fight for every ball, especially with Barrales and Karamanos. They are well organized in defence, try to remain compact and make the most of their counterattacks with long crosses. A team might have control of the ball in such games, but it takes one play for the rival to create threat. We must be prepared and react swiftly».
On the absence of away fans:
«We carry with us the enthusiasm of all the fans who came to London. We know that we have the support of our fans all the time. In reality, this bond is a characteristic of a winning team».
