Chelsea – PAOK: Mixed zone
After PAOK’s defeat by Chelsea in London on matchday 5 of the UEFA Europa League group stage, Vieirinha, Paschalakis and Warda spoke in the mixed zone. Here’s what they said:
Captain Adelino Vieirinha pointed out the following:
«Unfortunately, that early red card didn’t help us. From then on our task became even hardere and we surrendered ball possession. Everything changed after the red card. We wanted to keep our goal intact and gain a good result, but against such quality sides that is hard. We leave London with our head held high, because we still managed to showcase our football. Our fans made a big journey to come and watch us, but we were on an off day. They know however that getting a good result against such sides is complicated anyway«.
Alexandros Paschalakis told the media:
«The sending off didn’t help us. It came too soon and from then on we had our backs against the wall. That’s no excuse though. We look ahead. We are a family and we will recover from this. We have still a chance to qualify and hopefully we will make it count. Chelsea are a top quality side. Circumstances didn’t help us. We came here to win, not just to avoid defeat«.
Amr Warda said:
«We faced one of the world’s top teams. We had a tough task, it became even harder with the red card. I tried to change our pace and help our game. We conceded two more goals. It wasn’t easy. We tried to defend well, to play football. But playing for almost the entire match in numerical inferiority is too hard«.
