«A good game and three points»
Răzvan Lucescu spoke to Novasports TV ahead of the match in Peristeri against Atromitos for matchday 9 of Super League Souroti. Read on paokfc.com what the Romanian tactician said:
On the encounter against Atromitos:
«It’s a tough match for both sides. Atromitos have an excellent team with strong mentality, they play good football, they are physical and apply incessant pressure. We need good mental preparation as our rivals may trouble us at any moment. It will be a tough match for Atromitos as well, as we are good and in fine form. I am expecting a good game and victory».
On whether he changes the team’s preparation after the high-profile clashes:
«We don’t change anything. We face the second-placed team of the league on Saturday. We can’t change anything. Afterwards we play a European match, then we face Panetolikos and, after the international break, we come up against 5th-placed Xanthi. We get to play against rivals who improve all the time. We need to be focused and prepared for all our encounters. That has been one of our strongest points so far».
Whether he needs to boost his players for encounters against theoretically weaker sides:
«In football, thinking that a team is beneath us, can guarantee defeat. We need to be mentally and physically prepared to give it all on the pitch in order to get the desired result. We know that every side are extra motivated to play against us, therefore we must be on our guard all the time».
On the team he considers as PAOK’s main rival for the league title:
«I don’t want to comment on that. We need to concentrate on our team. We know our rivals and take it one game at a time».
On Maurício’s return to action:
«He will probably join full training next week, in time for the encounter against Panetolikos and the upcoming Greek cup tie».
On the loss to Vidi and how it affected the team:
«It was just a game – but at the same time, every game is special. You get to lose at some point. There’s no way a team can win all their matches. The most successful team is the one who cuts down the number of their defeats».
On Wernbloom and what he expects of him:
«I want him to keep working. He is still in adjustment mode. He played more minutes in recent matches and we want him to improve further. He has a strong personality and I am happy with his performance».
On the encounter against Panathinaikos and the displays of Limnios and Jabá:
«I don’t check the players’ age when a match kicks off. I expect everyone to give their best in trainings and matches. I also make it a point of being close to my players and help them. I am happy when we win and when every player performs well. I don’t know the exact age of my players and they are all equal in my eyes».
On managing his troops:
«We will see».
