U20s edge out a 1-1 draw in Larissa

PAOK U20s recorded a 1-1 away draw against AEL Larissa on the unplayable pitch of Pyrgetos.

24.03.2017

The pitch was heavy and affected the flow of play, making it especially hard for the technical game of PAOK players. However, the “Double-Headed Eagle” were in control from minute one. AEL Larissa sat back and opted for counterattacking breaks through long balls. In the last play before the interval, PAOK took the lead after an excellent combination that saw Chatzistravos tee up Kozak for a neat finish.

The complex of the encounter didn’t change in the second half. The home side defended in numbers and PAOK were finding it hard to score the second goal that would seal their win. They could only cross or fire from a distance, but to no avail. Instead, they were equalized in the 80th minute, when AEL Larissa made the most of a momentary blackout in PAOK’s defence.

No matter how hard they tried in the last minutes, the “Double-Headed Eagle” had to content with the draw point, thus losing the opportunity of closing in to the Super League frontrunners.

PAOK U20: Muca, Gintidis, Polyzos, Gialamoudis (75’Papathanasiou), Lyratzis, Μeletidis, Chatzidimpas, Chatzistravos, Kozak (60’ Stathopoulos), Τzovaras, Doumtsis (55’ Papadopoulos).
