Stats Zone: First half of the season
Τhey are a fetish for some. Others couldn’t care less. Sometimes they speak the truth, sometimes they hide it. It’s hard to argue though that they have become an integral part of football. Numbers, stats, percentages… Here is paokfc.gr’s roundup of the season’s first six months in numbers.
It’s still December, but PAOK have already played 25 official matches –this number could have been as high as 28, were it not for the postponements in the Super League. Since the encounter against AFC Ajax in Amsterdam back in July, PAOK have recorded 13 victories, suffered 7 defeats and played 5 draws, scoring 41 goals and conceding 19.
The “Two-Headed Eagle” boast the third best attack in the Super League with 18 goals scored, behind AEK Athens and Olympiacos. They are second-place in the lists of passes, attempts on target, turnovers and third-place in the list of crosses. They came through the group stages of the UEFA Europa League and the Greek Cup successfully. However they have lost considerable ground in the Super League, featuring in 8th place with 17 points and also carry a 3-point deduction from last season.
Regarding the individual stats, numbers confirm that Garry Rodrigues and Léo Matos are the top performers of the “Two-Headed Eagle” so far in the season. The Cape Verde winger leads the scoring and assists charts, having netted 6 goals and created 7. He also tops the list of most attempts on target with 42, has most missed chances (7), as many as Djalma Campos. He also has most completed passes (36) and fouls suffered than his teammates.
