ACF Fiorentina – PAOK: Mixed zone
What PAOK players said to the media after their huge victory over ACF Fiorentina in Italy for matchday 5 of the UEFA Europa League.
The scorer of the winning goal, Garry Rodrigues, spoke right after the final whistle:
«I just fired the shot hoping it would go in –and it did. I am so happy with this buzzer-beater. I had wasted a huge chance earlier, but then I scored in the final minute. It’s a feeling I can’t describe«.
Djalma Campos returned to scoring ways and played a huge part in this great victory. Here’s what he said afterwards:
«I enjoyed this goal more than the one against Ajax, because today it was accompanied by a great result. Regarding the knock I sustained, we will see how it evolves. I will do some physiotherapy and recovery work and take it from there. This result puts us back in contention. There is still a home game left in the group stage and hopefully we will win and celebrate qualification«.
Efthymis Koulouris enjoyed his first start in a European encounter of PAOK and spoke about the usual phenomenon of the “Double-Headed Eagle” taking it up a level when faced with big rivals:
«Congratulations are in order for everyone. It was a huge victory and I am happy that I also helped the team as much as I could. We came here to win and we had a plan. Fiorentina are a strong side. We are accustomed to PAOK improving when facing strong opposition. PAOK are a big club and prove that in Europe. We don’t fear any rival. We are slowly making our team known in Europe«.
José Ángel Crespo spoke about a historic victory:
«I am very happy. This was a huge, historic victory for PAOK against a great team. We were very lucky in the end for clinching these points«.
Marin Leovac put on the captain’s armband for the first time and declared himself honoured, while also speaking about what lies ahead:
«This victory makes us happy. It was a very tough game, we could have lost or drawn. Now we are alive in the qualification battle. I feel pride –it’s an honour to wear the captain’s armband in this team, to be their skipper. I consider it an honour. We are happy for the guys who scored. Whoever scores, does it for the team –it’s not a personal feat. I am very happy for Garry, because he had missed some chances in previous games and today ended up netting the winner. Hopefully we can continue like this«.
