PAOK – Qarabağ FK: Mixed zone
Here is what Tzavellas, Pereyra and Cañas said in the mixed zone of Toumba Stadium, after the final whistle of the encounter against Qarabağ FK corresponding to UEFA Europa League matchday 4.
Giorgos Tzavellas, who returned to action on Thursday, spoke about the team’s performance, underlining that nobody can be happy about it and that they need to change ahead of the tough matches ahead:
«We were not good. I would be lying if I said that we are happy with our performance. We need to discuss it among us. We can’t continue on that path. We must change. Qarabağ didn’t create many chances before they scored, but they tried to play football, were patient on the pitch. We weren’t as ready as we should be for the match. Something went wrong. We made a mistake somewhere and we need to fix it. We aren’t eliminated, but it has gotten very hard now. We must go after a good result in Italy. We are left behind and need a combination of results to go through«.
Facundo Pereyra commented on PAOK’s failure to win points at home, but stressed that no all hope is lost:
«It’s not important if I played well or how many opportunities to score we created. It’s important that we failed to get three points at home. The situation has gotten very complicated. Our rivals played a good match and won in Toumba. There are still six points to play for and we must fight for them. Qualification was and remains our aim. Hopefully, the results of the other games will help us«.
José Alberto Cañas spoke about an undeserved result and commented on the Azeri side’s few chances to score:
«Worst-case scenario happened: we lost a home game. We dominated the first half and were rarely threatened. I don’t know what happened in the second half. We remained in control, but ended up conceding a goal. That is football, but I don’t think we deserved to lose«.
