Ajax are waiting…
PAOK U20s were determined to succeed in their first official European test and achieved it, by overcoming their nervousness.
The troops of Pablo García and Αpostolos Papavasiliou played a goalless draw against Puskás Akadémia Felcsút in Kaftanzoglio Stadium and made it to the next round, thanks to the away goal rule, having secured a 1-1 draw in Hungary. Their next rival in the UEFA Youth League is AFC Ajax. The first leg will be held in Thessaloniki on 2 November and the second in Amsterdam three weeks later (23 November).
For most of the encounter, PAOK were better than their rivals, they had the initiative and possession, but failed to create clear-cut chances. They could have taken the lead however in the first 20 minutes, through the efforts of Stathopoulos and Chatzistravos or in the 40th minute, when Dodontsakis missed his chance from close range.
After the interval, the complexion of the encounter remained unchanged. PAOK were more lively and came close to scoring in the 65th minute, but Chatzidimpas’s fine shot was saved by the keeper of the Hungarian side.
Six minutes later though, Puskás Akadémia Felcsút threatened to break the deadlock, but Siampanis reacted impeccably in a one-on-one attempt and held on to the draw.
