First international calls of the season
International action resumes in early September, with most national teams around the world kicking off their 2018 World Cup campaign or engaging in friendly encounters. Here are the PAOK players called by national team coaches.
Three PAOK players in Greece squad
Greece kick off their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign with an away match against Gibraltar on 6 September. Before that, Michael Skibbe will get the opportunity to check out his troops in action through a very tough friendly encounter against the Netherlands, in Eindhoven on 1 September.
Three players of PAOK have been included by the German coach in the squad. Giorgos Tzavellas and Alexandros Tziolis are firm choices, while Panagiotis Glykos has been called for the first time by Skibbe. The goalkeeper of the “Double-Headed Eagle” returns to international duty after 10 months.
Gojko Cimirot returns
Gojko Cimirot last was included in the Bosnia-Herzegovina squad on 31 March 2015. His outstanding performances for PAOK last season earned him a recall by Mehmed Baždarević, but the player was unlucky as an ankle injury kept him sidelined.
Now however he is ready to return to international duty, as he has made the list for the kick off of 2018 World Cup qualifiers, with Bosnia-Herzegovina playing host to Estonia on 6 September in “Bilino Polje” Stadium of Zenica. Bosnians have been drawn in the same group with Greece, Belgium, Estonia, Cyprus and Gibraltar.
Cape Verde’s black-and-white duo
Last season, because of Garry Rodrigues, PAOK fans showed a keen interest for the fortunes of Cape Verde national team. Now they have an added reason, named Fernando Varela.
Both PAOK players have been included in their national squad for the upcoming encounter against Libya in Praia on 2 September, their last group stage match for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
