Željko Brkić, signing No 6

PAOK FC announce the signing of Željko Brkić from Udinese Calcio on a three-year deal.

07.07.2016

Born on 9 July 1986 at Novi Sad of former Yugoslavia, he made his first steps in football at the local academy, before moving to FK Vojvodina to work in the youth sides of the club. In 2005 he was shipped on loan to Proleter Novi Sad where he played in 31 matches.

He returned to make his debut with FK Vojvodina in 2007 and was the team’s starting goalkeeper until 2011. He then decided to make the big career leap and move to Italy for Udinese Calcio. As the Udine outfit had already run out of their foreign player quota, it was decided that SS Robur Siena would sign him and Udinese would keep the right to get him at a preferential price. He kept a clean sheet on his Serie A debut on 11 September 2011 against Calcio Catania. A few months later, in December, he sustained an injury that sidelined him for quite some time.

In January 2012, he returned to Udinese Calcio as a free agent and, after Samir Handanović moved to Inter, Brkić became the starting goalkeeper. For two seasons he was the No1 choice at goal and missed just a few matches due to injuries. In January 2014 he was given on loan to Cagliari Calcio where he played in 21 games. He spent last season at Carpi FC 1909 and featured in 7 encounters.

He defeated goal for Serbia U21 team in 12 encounters. He made his senior international debut on 3 March 2010, coming on as substitute in a friendly against Algeria. He has 12 caps.
